The longest concert in the world

St. Burchardi Halberstadt
Here's longest concert in the world takes place: St. Burchardi in Halberstadt
In Halberstadt in the northern Harz foreland there is a worldwide unique organ concert at the moment. There is a piece of music called "Organ²/ASLSP" by the American composer John Cage. As subtitles and simultaneous tempo marking the composer stated: "as slow as possible".

This rule one can - if one wants to - also very generously interpret: In the Church "St. Burchardi" in Halberstadt this piece of music shall now be listed in a manner like the world had never heard before.

The beginning of the concert you've already missed while reading this text. The organ concert began on 5 September 2001. But there is no need to rush: The staging will does not finished until on the 4 September 2640. Whole 639 years to take on a specially constructed organ playing time this musical work!

This piece has started with a one and a half year break. The first chord was first heard on 5 February of 2003. Several months this sound was to audible.

The musical instrument - the organ - will be completed only in the course of the performance. Yet only a few organ pipes are installed. In the coming centuries, but with each new sound will it more and more.

So if you want to feel a touch of eternity, you should visit the St. Burchardi church in Halberstadt. You hear there a tiny fraction of the longest concert in human history. The church is open daily except Mondays from 11 am to 4 pm.
